PRECAUTION & BEWARE !!! Falling Trees on Your Car During Monsoon Season

Here are practical precautions you can take to protect your car:

1. Choose Parking Spots Wisely

  • Avoid parking under or near large trees, old, leaning or cracked trees.
  • Watch out for overhanging branches that may break under heavy rain or wind.
  • Stay clear of dead or dry trees, which are prone to falling.
  • Avoid slopes areas where soil may loosen during storms.

2. Inspect Surroundings Regularly

  •  Check nearby trees if you park in the same spot

        – Look for trunk or branch cracks.

        – Exposed roots or soil lifting on one side

        – Fungal growth or termites near the base

        – Trees leaning toward the car park area

  • Report risky trees to your local council or property management.

3. Use Covered or Secured Parking When Possible

  • Opt for indoor or covered parking during monsoon months, even if it costs extra.
  • If unavailable, choose open areas away from trees, poles, or signboards.

4. During Heavy Rain or Storm Alerts

  • Avoid parking outdoors in strong winds or storms.
  • If a tree is swaying dangerously near your parked car, move your car immediately.
  • Do not stay in the car under a tree during lightning or windstorms — it’s unsafe.

5. Maintain Car Insurance Protection

  • Make sure your car insurance covers natural disasters (“Act of God”), including:

      – Falling trees or branches

      – Flood damage

      – Storm and wind damage

  • This usually falls under Add-on Coverage — check your policy or consult your agent.
